Well a few weeks have passed since the great loss to our community. After speaking at Josh’s funeral, the Troxel family hit the road for a week of rest. We were able to see many of our friends in Glennallen, Tok, and Anchorage. Unfortunately, due to the change in our vacation schedule, we missed seeing some dear friends in Chistochina. We are planning to return to the Copper Valley after the New Year so we can see our friends at Chisto.
This past weekend, Vern Wilkinson (my district representative with VM) visited. We always look forward to Vern’s visits. During this visit, one of the elders pointed out to Vern that he felt that we have become as involved and known and respected in the community as his family which has been living in Nenana since 1995. This was encouraging and humbling. The Lord has been mightily at work in providing opportunities for us to get involved and minister here in Nenana.
Saying that – we have a new ministry opportunity on the near horizon! After getting some information, the elder board has approved funds to secure a CVLI license. What this means is an opportunity to show family friendly films free of charge to the whole community. We will be sponsoring family movie nights as an activity – free of charge. The license was relatively inexpensive and opens so many doors. Even today, residents at the senior housing apartments asked if we would be willing to bring movie nights there for the all the residents.
Movie nights can be especially effective in reaching out as the winters are long, dark, and cold. This will provide families and individuals with times to get together and enjoy our community. This type of fellowship is necessary when facing the long, dark winter months.
In addition to family friendly movies, we will be selecting some evangelistic films so that we may have even more opportunities to present the gospel to our friends and neighbors. We are so excited. So please pray for us (the Troxels) as we look for more ways to minister here in Nenana and for the elders as we pray and seek God’s counsel.
